Nuts, healthy super-food

There are few studies analyzing the effect of diet in terms of years. The famous Nurse's Health Study, which now in its third edition (so called because they are made with nurses) are the best known, along with the Adventist Health Study and the Iowa Women's Health Study. They all have in common that span many years and still tens of thousands of people.

Well, in the three named there is a particular food that stand out very well, to the point that people who consume it regularly have a risk between 30 and 50% lower for cardiovascular diseases. This is nuts. And, in general, also other (non-roasted natural) such as pistachios, almonds, nuts etc.

So you have a new appetizer. Although saying that is fat (which is true) and fattening (this is debatable, as it can as seen in this post, the long term is quite the contrary), if you are in plan healthy diet and seeking to lose weight, nuts are a great choice for snacking.

As usual, a few recent studies and reviews that support it:
- Frequent nut consumption and risk of coronary heart disease in women
- Nuts: anti-atherogenic food?
- Nuts as part of a healthy cardiovascular diet.
- Nuts and berries for heart health.
